About Us

Our Story

Tanuga Safaris was born in 2017 from curiosity, a love of wandering, and a shared desire to connect people with places in ways that feel real, thoughtful, and deeply human.

What began as a passion project between friends has grown into a family-run safari company shaped by experience, trust, and a genuine love for Africa in all its contrasts.

At the heart of Tanuga are three people whose lives, cultures, and perspectives meet beautifully in the spaces between wilderness and comfort, tradition and discovery, adventure and ease.

Together, we are a blend of cultures, disciplines, and perspectives – friends who work closely, travel often and remain deeply involved in every journey we create.

  • Sarah

Sarah brings the soul of the continent into everything we do. A proud Maasai and part of one of Tanzania’s enduring pillar tribes, she has deep cultural roots and a natural gift for hospitality. With a calm presence and an intuitive understanding of people, Sarah oversees logistics and guest experience – ensuring that every journey feels seamless, grounded and warmly welcoming.

  • Hazel

Ugandan by birth and a citizen of the world by nature, has lived and worked across East Africa, the USA, and Europe. Originally trained as a nurse, her path into safaris was guided by a lifelong fascination with people, cultures and wild places. Today, she leads our sales and marketing with care and insight, translating dreams into journeys that feel both exciting and reassuringly “expert”.

  • Jörk

Completing the trio is Jörk, a scientist and nature lover. His analytical mind brings clarity and structure, while his passion for the natural world shapes our approach to thoughtful, well-considered travel. He supports our sales and marketing efforts, ensuring that every experience is as well-designed as it is inspiring.

Our international backgrounds allow us to understand not only where our guests come from, but what they hope to feel when they travel: wonder, connection, comfort and a sense of belonging.

At the core of Tanuga Safaris is contrast: wild landscapes paired with thoughtful comfort, ancient cultures experienced through modern eyes, and expertly guided adventures that still leave room for surprise. Hospitality here is personal, never polished for show. Every journey is shaped with care, curiosity, and respect, inviting you to explore Africa with people who live and breathe it, and who are genuinely excited to share it with you.
